To prove that he really did the jump and it isn't a Photoshop picture, he showed us a video clip of him doing the bungee jump.
He said that why he was confident that he will be safe at the end of the jump, because he did research on this company, which apparently was founded by AJ Hackett and Henry van Asch, who started this bungee jump activity.
He's confident as this company is reliable and has credibility over so many years.
Same goes to trusting in God. Many of us don't realise but when we trust God, doesn't mean we have faith on Him. We cannot be like, trusting God halfway, leaving the balance to ourselves because we think we have control over the situations.
We trust in God because we have complete confidence and firm reliance on His integrity, reputation and credibility.
Trust is trust. Whenever you have 1% of doubt, it simply means that you don't trust. Here are few points that I jot down during today's sermon.
- Have faith in God, and it will lead to trust.
- More often we think that we are in control, and we have control in whatever that is going on in our lives. The truth is, no, just as you can't control the weather and future, only God has complete control.
- If you put your trust in God, you won't be disappointed with Man, and you'll find it easy to forgive Man, whatever wrong that they did to hurt you, be it intentional or unintentional.
- When you trust Him, He will open your eyes to see that the challenge that is given to you will be beneficial for you. You will somehow become stronger, more confident and etc.
- Psalm 20:7 -
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
Chariots = man made resources -> money, houses, technology
Horses = natural resources -> intellectual, talent, ability
Wow, I didn't know Bible verses got such hidden and powerful meaning. Like studying English Literature. Haha.
But it's so true. More often we think that we're better than other people because we have more money than others and we're smarter than others. But sad to say, all these resources that God gave to us as blessings were often misused by ourselves and turn them into curses. Money can fail us, intellectual can bring us down. Only by trusting God, we can have joy in our lives.
- Isaiah 55:8-9 -
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
- Seek the mind of God, and acknowledge God because it helps in recognising God's presence in you.
- During difficult times, if you don't know what to do, simply pray.
- Philippians 4:6 -
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
God knows our needs even before we pray. But He wants us to pray because that's how we communicate with Him. Just like our relationships with people. Sometimes we know what our partners want, but with communication it comes clarification.
- Proverbs 16:3 -
Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans.
And one thing about we human beings is, sometimes we like to choose what to deal by our own and what to pass to God to deal. For example, we have problems with our business. Really cannot handle. So we pray and ask God to help. But when it comes to relationships with spouses, we think that we can handle by our own or we choose to ignore because too sensitive la, don't want to talk about it la, later argue more la. That kind of mindset.
But no, don't choose which segment in our lives to surrender to God. Because if Jesus is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all.
- Psalm 46:10 -
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
But do not mistaken that by having faith in God, we don't need to do anything, for faith without works is death.
We put on effort, and we trust in God.
Radical Trust, trust completely, have complete faith. Because God never fail us. :)
