The word Blessing has been mentioned in the Bible for more than 7000 times, thus shows its importance in our daily lives.
Numbers 6:24-26
‘“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
25
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
26
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”
God bless us, so that we can be a blessing to others.
What I love about blessing in Christianity context is that we don't have to give God stuff in order to be blessed. Sure, we do give tithes and offering, but those are used by church to give out to those who need it. Whenever we are blessed, we give back to God by blessing others. Even when we feel that we received nothing, we still are able to bless people with a cheerful heart, without hoping that we need to receive back.
2 Corinthians 2:8-11
8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. 9 Another reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. 10 Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
Genesis 1:22 - Divine Abundance - Fruitful and Increase
22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”
Genesis 1:28 - Divine Authority - Subdue it and Rule
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Genesis 2:3 - Divine Approval - Make it Holy
3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Sometimes when we receive blessings from God, we think that we are not worth it to receive because of our wrongdoings, and we are embarrassed to be blessed even when we are not doing things right or are not pleasing to Him. But as children of His, we have the rights to receive blessings even when we do not understand, and all because of His grace and love towards us.
Other times, when our journey seems smooth, maybe even till a stage when we feel that it's a perfection, and we have been blessed tremendously, we still receive blessings from God because blessings are added-value to perfection. Not necessary we need to wait till something is wrong or something bad happen only we pray for blessings, right? Therefore we should always covet God's blessing.
So how do we handle this blessings?
1. Receive Blessings with Gratitude
- Remember: God's grace saved us
- Recognise: All good things
- Respond: Make declaration of praise and celebrate
2. Handle Blessings with Maturity
- It's just a thin line between blessings and curse. After all, blessings can turn into curse if we do not handle it properly
- Dependent on our maturity
- Grow spiritually and enjoy God's blessings
3. Release Blessings to fulfill God's Purpose
- God is all-wise
- His blessings come with a purpose, which is for us to bless other people
