Matthew 18:1-4
1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them.
3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
1. A child is very simple
- naive, have greater faith in God without any doubts
- utterly dependent on adults as they cannot feed themselves or earn money, just as how we should depend on God
Mark 6:41
41 Taking the five loaves and the two fishes and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.
- A boy willingly gave his 5 loaves and two fishes for Jesus to feed a crowd of 5,000. He didn't doubt or reluctantly gave his only food because he's obedient and trust Jesus. Many times adults are more unwillingly to contribute what they already have, for fear that they might lose the earthly things
- Miracle happens when we simply offer
- Go beyond FEAR, SHAME, SHY, and OWN REPUTATION as God's grace is sufficient for us
2. A child has quiet soul
Psalm 131:1-3
1 My heart is not proud, Lord,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
2 But I have calmed and quieted myself,
I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.
3 Israel, put your hope in the Lord
both now and forevermore.
- We need to learn to quiet ourselves and calm down
- Rest and peace in heart translate to hope
- It's a process of maturing
3. A child can be comforted
Isaiah 66:13
13 As a mother comforts her child,
so will I comfort you;
and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.
- We refuse to be comforted because we're complex
- Don't need to buy new phone or change new car just because it's trending
- If cannot afford to buy, then don't buy: we become easily comforted and are at rest (no need to think where to get the money to buy all these things)
#God, give me everything to fulfill the calling of destiny of mine.
